In fact, people who work for an employer usually use their time off to try to start their own business, so they can be self-sufficient and not need an employer, anymore. In the days of slavery, slaves could hire themselves out on their day off so they could save money to buy their own freedom. If there were no right to moonlight on the Sabbath, how could people earn their freedom?

And yes, those Blue Laws you mentioned completely distort the purpose of the Day Off. I guess that is different because I want to do this, but it is true if you are creating something yourself, or running a business, there is usually no day off for you. Some religions act very puritanical about the observation of the sabbath, and some of this is actually leftover from Puritanical influence. Many states had strident liquor laws, which I witnessed as recently as 2005. When I lived in Blythe a couple of my friends thought crossing the border into Arizona to purchase gasoline was a wonderful way to save a dollar a gallon. Back then gas was probably about 2.35 a gallon, but maybe 1.50 in Arizona. Sometimes even lower. One friend complained the gas was a lower quality than what was sold in California, but it seemed just fine because my friend drove a rental car all around Southern California, and we did not seem to have problems lol. However, the funny thing that happened one time was a woman who probably lived in Blythe was working at the convenience store in Quartz. I was behind this man buy a large pack of beer, and he paid for it and was on his way. After he left a fellow employee came up to her and said "You cannot sell liquor in Arizona on a Sunday before ten." The woman who sold the beer said she did not know this, and the other employee said she was on her own. I was like yikes, there is still a law prohibiting buying beer on a Sunday morning before ten, and I found on Google up until 2010 there was.Jhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11147781152448695481noreply@blogger.com
